Presentation of the Degree

The technical architect must respond to the central role of his profession, the management of work, ensuring quality, safety and health at work, willing to be on a working footing managing all processes related to his execution, with a marked vision of project manager and budget. A qualification has therefore been proposed with high content and standards of demand in basic and compulsory matters. Matter like construction, project management, activity management of construction companies, building quality, health and safety.

Why do you have to study this degree at EPS?

Students of this degree receive a solid theoretical training that is complemented by work applied in the laboratories of the school (building, materials, physics, etc.). In addition, many work visits and different companies in the sector are carried out throughout the course of the studies and technical talks are regularly organised by professionals of recognised prestige. As a singular point, the Technical Architecture and Building Studies plan of the EPS includes the realization of compulsory practices in one of the companies with which the school is agreed. At 4th grade, students have the option to stay at University College, Denmark, thus earning the dual degree of Technical Architecture and Edification . Civil Engineering.

This degree will apply a pioneering dual training methodology to state territory, which will allow the student who wishes to combine training in university classrooms and the professional environment through a contract with the company.

It also provides for the possibility of courseing a common inter-university trunk (formative pathway). This teaching proposal is specified in the configuration of a training pathway through which a student of the Technical Architecture Degree of the UdL can be incorporated, via simultanity of studies or after their studies have been completed, into the Architecture Grade of the Rovira i Virgili (URV) University and complete the training of a second degree, the Grade in Architecture.

To instrument the Degree in Technical Architecture and Building, which is organized in a presential way, the Superior Polytechnic School offers:

  • Upper Degrees Formatives (CFGS) to the Grade in Technical Architecture and Building. Here you can see the Convalidations of the corresponding form cycle.
  • Reduced groups that make it easier to exchange with the teacher and more accurate monitoring of the work done by the student.
  • On-going evaluation.
  • Block curriculum of subjects corresponding to the same academic year
  • Individualized tutors. In the EPS each student has a tutor/a assigned to whom they can address any issues related to their studies. Within the Nestor Tutories program, student care mechanisms are established.
  • Incorporation of active methodologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology or Virtual/Augmented Reality.
  • Tutoried practices in compulsory companies that allow for the insertion of graduates (105 annual trainee offers). The possibility of implementing these practices at international level.
  • End Grade work with tutoring and continuous evaluation. The possibility of making TFGs within the company.

Job opportunities

The profession for which graduates are trained once they have obtained the title is that of Architect/a technic/a (ORDEN ECI/3855/2007).

Graduates in Technical Architecture and Building enjoy a wide and diverse field of work in civil engineering and public work. Its activity is oriented towards projection, execution, and control of the construction of the work; therefore, it is common to find the professional in construction in both the construction company and the consultant. The work's monitoring, maintenance and conservation tasks are also part of this professional's performance. This task is often carried out by the administrations: central, autonomous and local.

Double degree International

Double degree in Technical Architecture and Building & Civil Engineering

The double degree in Technical Architecture and Building & Civil Engineering was born with the aim of enabling students from the two universities (EPS - University of Lleida and VIA University College of Denmark) to achieve this second degree, reinforcing and complementing their academic and professional profile from the world of Civil Engineering (for UdL students who go to Denmark), enabling them to face their future work challenges with greater guarantees of success, as well as consolidating English, which becomes a language of daily use both in their daily lives as an academic.

Given that the double degree is conveyed through the mobility processes offered by the UdL, it is not until the 3rd year of the Degree in Technical Architecture and Building that students can access this double degree (and accredit the B2 level required English), which offers the opportunity to study at least one academic year (10 months or 2 semesters) at the other university and receive, with the same duration as the UdL Degree, also the title of the other institution. VÍA University College, located in the city of Horsens, in the central region of Denmark, educates, among others, future engineers and designers.

It offers more than 40 degrees at eight campuses throughout the region. VÍA's most advanced training departments have more than 20,000 annual participants in garu and master's programs. Fact that makes VÍA UC the largest university training institution in northern Europe. Horsens is a town on the east coast of the Jutland region of Denmark. The population of the city is 59,181 inhabitants (data for 2019) and the population of the municipality is 90,370 inhabitants (data for 2019). It is consequently the 8th largest city in Denmark. Horsens is also a city known for its culture and its entertainment offer: the new Horsens Theater is a cultural center that celebrates more than 200 annual events that has managed to program shows by important artists such as Bob Dylan, Madonna or The Rolling Stones. Currently, the city is experiencing positive development with new industry moving to Horsens, especially in the electronics and graphic design sector.

Horsens also has the only industrial museum in Denmark.

Common interuniversity degree. Degree in Architecture

This teaching proposal is specified in the configuration of a training pathway through which a student of the Technical Architecture Degree of the UdL can be incorporated, via simultanity of studies or after their studies have been completed, in the Architecture Degree of the Rovira and Virgil University (URV) and complete the training of a second degree.

To make this possible, a common inter-universitary trunk (formative route) has been established for students who wish to develop it, from which it will be validated up to 166 ECTS from the URV Architecture qualification with subjects exceeded the UdL Technical Architecture degree and included in the common trunk, pending the course of the URV Architecture degree a total of 134 ECTS of subjects and 30 ECTS of Grade End work. This implies that a student who has studied Technical Architecture at the UdL and is doing this training course will be able to attain the URV Architecture title in at least two and a half years.

Professionally, we are dealing with an innovative and powerful bet, which ensures better employability for students. In this respect, we must remember that at present, architects and technical architects are involved in the same process: the constructive process of buildings and other urban facilities and infrastructure. Specifically, the technical architect is formed to “direct execution” the building or the construction, as well as its later “maintenance and rehabilitation”, while the architect has essentially been formed to “dischair” and “project” the building or construction, although it also has full powers in the direction of the constructive process.
